The terrain on the Trace is so beautiful and so diverse. As we traveled on north to Tupelo, we found some more wonderful and unique nature and history.
we'd never even heard of Tupelo trees -- just thought it was the name of a town in Mississippi |
this is a must stop |
Tupelo trees tend to like deeper water, while Cypress are more along the shores |
Doobie Brothers were right, Mississippi does have black water |
there is a trail all the way around the swamp |
I can't tell the difference between the Tupelo and Cypress, but when they leaf out I think they'll be easily identifiable |
taking a little hike |
Cypress knees |
this knee looks like something on the movie, Tremors |
reflections |
love David's photography |
I didn't take Rocky with us on this walk, just in case of gators |
made a quick stop at River Bend |
we'd heard there had been recent gator sightings, but we just saw this Egret and Heron |
Great Blue Heron |
Oprah's birthplace and hometown - nice NPS visitor center here |
named for this General -- why, we don't know |
Before we got to Tupelo, we drove through rain, sleet, snow, and hail all at the same time. After a quick stop at headquarters, we got a hotel there for an overnighter.
1-23-15: Got up this morning and found David a doctor. Sounding a little like his pneumonia is coming back, but the doc said no. Loaded him up with antibiotics and cough med and we headed on up the road.
