Natchez Trace Parkway: Day 3 - Franklin to The Gordon House

woke up to snow in Nashville
1-24-15:  After a visit to a wonderful little yarn shop in Breckenridge, we spent the night in the Nashville area and woke up to snow on the ground! Yay!!

approaching the Hwy 96 bridge

After driving through historic Franklin (in which I need to spend a little more time), we headed back to the Northern Terminus of the Natchez Trace Parkway and started our trip back south.

last night we drove on the bridge to the end of the Trace
today we are going under it
Rocky ready to cut loose in the snow
the bridge spans Birdsong Hollow
for perspective, that's Rocky and me at the base
you can see a car going under it on 96
one of the most photographed places on the Trace

picturesque from every angle
the double arch bridge won the 1995 Presidential Award for design excellence
wonderful stop

unfortunately, it's a common jumping point for troubled people
across the road from the bridge
snow dog
so I haven't seen snow a lot in my life, so lots of pix here
pretty little stream cutting through the snow
ok, more snow
but the roads were just fine
pretty!
gotta love a split rail NPS fence covered in snow
almost finished with now pix
and here we go, last one

Gordon House is one of the few remaining buildings on the Trace
In the early 1800's Gordon rec'd permission from Chickasaw Chief George Colbert to operate a stand and ferry across the Duck River at this location
Gordon's wife, Dorthea, supervised construction of the house in 1817-18

deceased beaver on the way to the old ferry site
who hatch trodden before us this snowy morning?

hubs taking pix of the clearwater stream
and off we go to the old ferry site
Rocky is leading me
and, thankfully, pulling me a little
beautiful path to the site
arrived Gordon's ferry site on Duck River
#davidlovesselfies
pretty good size river
Gordon house from the ferry trail
heading back to the truck
but not without making a snowman first for the grandsons
