Family, Feasts and Frozen!

rocking the grandparenthood
November is indeed a month to remind us what we have to be thankful for!  We've been blessed to have some great family time.

sweet Heather
11-19-13:  Today was beautiful Heather's 18th bday!  Can NOT believe it's been this long since she was born!  Happy Birthday, Heather Louise!
Andrew would announce when someone he knew entered
is he not cute???!!!

Asher was the perfect audience for his big bro

Tonite, we got to go to Andrew's Fall Program at school.  Admittedly, schools give us a rash.  Yet we were so excited to get to see him in one of his school events!  He was the cutest one up there!

our Edith
11-21-13:  Edith turned 94 today! She is amazing!  Can't wait to see her soon!

Dream Lifter at Jabara
every road around the airport was packed with vehicles, cameras, and emergency vehicles
Last night a monster big cargo plane, the Dream Lifter, accidentally landed at the wrong airport in Wichita.  Oopsie.  It was headed to McConnell Air Base, but instead landed 12 miles north at Jabara Airport in town. Jabara is a very short runway. So there was some anxiety about getting it out of there.  On the way to play Panties with Greg and Linda Sue, we drove by there to get a look.  Only had my phone camera.  But, WOW!  Not sure we've ever seen a bigger plane! Lots of folks parked on the roads around the airport awaiting the take-off. We didn't park, but I was tempted. Hwy 96 was even closed off between Rock and Greenwich -- maybe a little concern about the blast from the tail during takeoff.  By the time we got to G and L's, it was taking off and we got to watch it on tv.  Took off without a hitch.
Linda Sue and I decided about halfway through, that we needed to turn our visors sideways due to the guys beating us so badly
Panties at Greg and Linda Sue's
ok, sometimes we let the guys win

Had a game to finish.  The guys were a little bit ahead.  And they won!  They don't beat us too often.  But like my mama always said -- sometimes ya gotta let the guys win!

Caryl's Kerchief pattern
such an interesting book
11-22-13:  Cold weather has hit the plains!  Today we had a little sleet, snow, and temps in the teens!  Nothing picture-worthy.  Instead, it was a stay inside and knit kind of day!  And a little reading kind of day.  David went to pick up the boys from school & enjoyed some great "how was your day" stories!  Andrew said he is the only one who cared about the floor. I'm guessing when the teacher asked them to pick up, some of the kids didn't cooperate -- just a guess.  And Asher said he farted all day long and got a green slip.  David said Andrew questioned him and determined the farting and the green slip weren't connected.  David says he's not so sure.   Gotta love a boy's perspective on things!  :)

wps!
11-23-13:  Razorback game day on tv!  Ok, all I can say about that is:  doesn't Andrew look comfy with the Razorback pillow I made out of some leftover fabric?  The Hogs lost their 8th straight game.

I think this November stay in KS has satisfied my desire to be somewhere that gets winter weather. In a camper, that is.  David has about exhausted himself keeping the camper warm.  He's done a great job, but it sure causes a guy to not get much sleep!  Ready to go south for the winter!

11-26-13:  We got to go to the Thanksgiving Feast at the boys' school today.  Second time in a school in one month!  That's more than all the yrs since we've been retired!

One of their friends made these for them -- too cute!
Grammy, Asher, and Olaf, the snowman
11-27-13:  Today David and I got to take the boys to lunch at Freddie's and to see Disney's Frozen. Asher seemed to like the movie more than Andrew did.  It had a few too many scary parts to suit him.

Grandpa with the minions and their sock snowmen
Then we went by the camper so we could walk Rocky a bit.  Rocky loved having Andrew walk him.  I think he ran the entire way and Andrew was able to run right along with him.  His tail didn't quit wagging the whole way!  So sweet!  To lighten the mood from the movie,  I gave them each a sock snowman that I'd made. Andrew promptly named his "Olaf".  Asher named his "Olaf 2".

David donned Andrew's turkey leg hat awhile
 LE shirt in Kansas?
Justin showed us the pic above and told us that a hs girl came to his church wearing it.  In Douglass, KS! She may have found it at a resale shop in OK somewhere.  Isn't that bizarre?  I mean, we're retired! We shouldn't be running into LE shirts all over the country! haha.  Actually, we thought it was kinda cool.
Rocky wants them to wait til Christmas morning to open his gift

Went on out to their house so that we could swap Christmas gifts.  After the opening of the gifts, they treated us to the Christmas lights in Winfield.  What a wonderful display! That town goes all out in their city park with several different themes throughout.  I believe they've been doing this since 1995.  Then Justin drove us out to see the hospital where he and Brooke now work.  Wonderful evening with our kiddos!

They didn't forget about it overnight

And neither did their dad!

11-28-13:  Thanksgiving Day! Brooke said the boys got right to Mario when they got up this morning.  Doug's family, Justin's family, David, and I gathered for the afternoon at Mac's.  As usual, most of us ate way too much!  Jeremy -- you're the winner on the yummy, spicy hot dishes!!  We left there feeling mighty blessed to have been able to be together. To top off the day, Laura arrived in Wichita tonight!

Laura and Mac

11-29-13:  David, Laura, and I went over to visit Grandpa Mac today.  Those 2 have a special bond and really enjoy their times together.

Heritage Hut
Irish Wolfhound! one of the biggest dogs I've ever seen
Then we went to 8th Day Bookstore downtown and Heritage Hut Yarn Shop.  Very cool shops. Probably good I didn't know about the yarn shop before today! The yarn shop in Comfort, TX has cats inside.  This one had an Irish Wolfhound.  She is 5 yrs old and didn't even lift her head when I came in the door.  She did wag her massive tail when I began petting her.  What a teddy bear!

When we got back to the camper, we settled in for a night of a Modern Family marathon while Laura and I played Panties. We only played 2 hands, but she clobbered me!  I must learn a new strategy before she and I play again at Christmas!  Justin, Brooke, and the boys stopped by to see Laura.  So glad they all got to do a little catching up!

our minions
11-30-13:  Rolled out this morning to Seminole, OK for an overnighter before heading on to Texarkana. We've loved November in KS!  We will miss all of our family, the thousands of honkers that fly north over our rv every morning, then again south each evening.  What a sight and sound!  We'll miss the beautiful prairies in the central plains, the magical night skies where one can see stars forever.  And minions!  We will miss our little minions!

12-1-13:  God blessed us and ours with safe travels today.  Laura made it safely back to SD and we made it safely to TX!  Excited to spend December with Gus, Edith, the Goff's and our friends here!  Oh and our doctors and dentist! LOL.

Much Love through the Christmas season!

Kristoff, Anna, and Olaf
